How to Practice Objection Handling With AI

September 2026 · 6 min read

Every rep has a mental script for "your price is too high" or "we're already using a competitor." The trouble is scripts are written for the objection you expect, and buyers are reliably good at saying something slightly to the left of it. The fix isn't a better script. It's hearing the curveball out loud, before the deal is the one testing you.

Why the script breaks first

A memorised answer to "it's too expensive" works fine until the buyer says "it's too expensive compared to what we're already paying for X," which is a different objection wearing the same three words. Reading objection-handling advice teaches you the shape of an answer. It doesn't teach you to recognise, in the moment, which objection you're actually looking at. That recognition only comes from having been surprised by a few variations already, ideally somewhere that doesn't cost you the deal.

What good objection practice actually tests

The useful version of this isn't a quiz with multiple-choice answers. It's a conversation that doesn't fold the moment you push back weakly.

A real test of your objection handling should:

What it looks like in practice

An unedited exchange from a Spar session, rAInmaker playing a buyer who leads with a competitor comparison rather than a straight price objection:

Rep: "Honestly, it's basically the same as what [competitor] does, and they're already in our stack."

rAInmaker, in character: "Then convince me why I should rip out something that already works and retrain my team, instead of you telling me it's basically the same. If it's basically the same, why would I switch?"

Then, out of role: flags that the rep's first answer restated features instead of naming the one thing the incumbent can't do, and asks for a second attempt.

Notice the objection wasn't "your price is too high," it was a status-quo defence dressed up as a comparison. A script tuned for pricing pushback would have answered the wrong question entirely.
